My Background & Qualifications
'No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge'
I have been interested in the healing arts for many years now and found myself drawn to counselling training after my own experience in therapy which I found to be life changing. I will always be grateful to my first therapist who gave me the gift of a compassionate space in which to reflect on myself and explore new possibilities, including training to become a psychological therapist. I completed my foundation and diploma trainings 18 years ago now and continue to develop my skills, particularly in the field of trauma while also participating in other healing modalities such as internal family systems. Along with my interest in psychology, I have also explored philosophy, meditation and spirituality which have all contributed to my own self development. I have had a meditation practice for 10 years or more and formalised my understanding of mindfulness by participating in a teacher training in 2016. Over the last 10 years or so, my beloved dogs have helped me gain an insight into the significant part that nature can play in healing, so I have also been keenly exploring ecotherapy and the amazing benefits it offers to our wellbeing. Below I have outlined the trainings and qualifications I have gained since embarking on this healing path.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, committed to continuing professional and personal development. I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Clinical Supervisor & Consultant with a particular interest in attachment focused EMDR. I am trained to intermediate level in Somatic Experiencing, a psychosomatic approach to healing trauma developed by Peter Levine and I have so far completed the level 1 IFS training. I have participated in a Mindfulness Teacher Training with The Centre for Mindfulness Research & Practice, Bangor University and I have a Certificate in Clinical Supervision.
As a BACP Accredited Counsellor, I am bound by its ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy, and subject to the professional conduct procedure therein.
